University of Strathclyde

Recycle Scotland is working with the University of Strathclyde to reupholster and repair office chairs, soft seating, and meeting tables.

Overview

Recycle Scotland has partnered with the University of Strathclyde to provide sustainable furniture solutions across their campus. Initially starting with smaller quantities of office chairs, this ongoing project has now scaled up to batches of 100 chairs. Our services include reupholstery, general repairs, vinyl wrapping, and replacement of chairs which are beyond repair.

Key Achievements

Reupholstering

We’ve reupholstered 239 office chairs, with some receiving additional repairs, saving an estimated 17,208 kgCO2e in carbon emissions.

Refurbishing

24 soft seating sections in the library have also been refurbished, saving an estimated 2,160 kgCO2e.

Total Impact

Across 263 pieces of furniture, we reduced the carbon footprint by an estimated 19,368 kgCO2e and diverted up to 6.2 tonnes of materials from landfill.

Working with Recycle Scotland has proven to be an asset in our sustainability initiatives. By extending the lifecycle of our furniture through repair and reuse, we are realising significant cost and carbon savings, making a substantial contribution to our environmental objectives. This partnership aligns with our commitment to circular economy principles and is a key further step in our journey to achieving Net Zero by 2040 at the latest.
